## How adding days works

Adding days simply counts forward on the calendar, including weekends and holidays. Adding 1 day to Monday gives Tuesday; adding 7 days gives the next Monday. For counting only working days, use the [working days calculator](https://saraltools.in/working-days-calculator/).

## Popular calculations

| Need | Add |
| --- | --- |
| One-month notice period | 30 days (or 1 month) |
| Two-month or three-month notice | 60 or 90 days |
| Return or replacement window | 7, 10 or 30 days |
| Pregnancy due date (from first day of last period) | 280 days |
| Visa or permit validity | 90 or 180 days |

## Adding months and years

Months are added on the calendar, not as 30 days. 15 March plus 1 month is 15 April. If the day does not exist in the target month (31 January plus 1 month), the result is the last day of that month. To count the days between two dates instead, use the [date difference calculator](https://saraltools.in/date-difference-calculator/).

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the date 90 days from today?

Leave the start date as today, choose Add, type 90 and choose Days. The answer appears instantly with the weekday.

### How do I count a 30-day or 60-day notice period?

Enter the date you resign as the start date and add 30 or 60 days. Some companies count the resignation day as day 1; in that case subtract one day from the result.

### What happens when I add a month to 31 January?

February has no 31st, so the result moves to the last day of February (28th, or 29th in a leap year). This is how banks and most software handle it.

### Can I subtract days?

Yes. Choose Subtract to find a date in the past, such as the date 45 days before an exam.
