About Baisakhi

Baisakhi (Vaisakhi) is the harvest festival of Punjab and the day the Khalsa was founded in 1699. It is also the solar new year in many regions: Pohela Boishakh in Bengal, Bohag Bihu in Assam, Vishu in Kerala and Puthandu in Tamil Nadu fall on or around this day.

How the date is decided

Baisakhi falls on Mesha Sankranti, when the Sun enters Aries in the sidereal zodiac (usually 13 or 14 April). In 2026 it falls on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.

Other festivals around this time

Maha Shivratri · Holi · Gudi Padwa / Ugadi · Ram Navami

Dates follow the panchang for New Delhi (IST), worked out from the positions of the Sun and Moon; tithi times are shown in IST. Some regions and traditions observe a festival a day earlier or later, so check with your family priest or local temple for rituals.
