## CGPA to percentage formulas

| Board / university | Formula | CGPA 8.0 → |
| --- | --- | --- |
| CBSE (Class 10, CGPA era) | CGPA × 9.5 | 76% |
| Many universities | CGPA × 10 | 80% |
| Some technical universities | (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 | 72.5% |
| Some technical universities | (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 | 75% |

Your university's rule is usually printed on the back of the marksheet or in the academic regulations. When an employer or exam form asks for a percentage, use the official formula and keep a copy of the rule in case you are asked.

## Why CBSE uses 9.5

CBSE worked out 9.5 as the average of the percentage that students with a 10 CGPA scored in the main subjects. It is an approximation, not an exact conversion.

## Weighted CGPA from SGPA

```
CGPA = (SGPA₁ × C₁ + SGPA₂ × C₂ + …) ÷ (C₁ + C₂ + …)
```

Semesters with more credits count more. If you are not sure of credits, give each semester the same number and you get a simple average. For other marks maths, use the [percentage calculator](https://saraltools.in/percentage-calculator/).

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I convert CGPA to percentage for CBSE?

Multiply your CGPA by 9.5. For example, CGPA 8.4 × 9.5 = 79.8%. CBSE used this rule for the CGPA system in Class 10.

### Is the 9.5 formula valid for my university?

Not always. Many universities publish their own conversion, such as CGPA × 10, or (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, or (CGPA − 0.5) × 10. Check your marksheet or university website and use the custom option.

### How is CGPA calculated from SGPA?

CGPA = Σ(SGPA × credits of that semester) ÷ Σ(credits). If all semesters have equal credits, it is the simple average of the SGPAs.

### How do I convert percentage to CGPA?

Reverse the formula: for CBSE, CGPA = percentage ÷ 9.5. Choose the 'percentage to CGPA' direction in the tool.
