## How it works

The weekday comes from the Gregorian calendar, which repeats every 400 years (146,097 days, exactly 20,871 weeks). Leap years add one extra day in February every four years, except century years not divisible by 400.

For a Hindu calendar view of any date, including tithi and nakshatra, open the [daily panchang](https://saraltools.in/panchang/).

## Frequently asked questions

### What day of the week was I born?

Enter your date of birth. The calculator shows the weekday along with its Hindi name, for example Somvar for Monday.

### What day was 15 August 1947?

Friday. India became independent on Friday, 15 August 1947.

### How far back does it work?

Any date from year 1 onwards, using the Gregorian calendar that India uses today. Dates before 1752 (when Britain switched calendars) may differ from old records that used the Julian calendar.

### Why does my birthday move one weekday each year?

A normal year has 365 days, which is 52 weeks and 1 day, so a date moves forward by one weekday each year, and by two after 29 February in a leap year.
