About Raksha Bandhan
On Raksha Bandhan sisters tie a rakhi on their brothers' wrists and pray for their wellbeing, and brothers promise to protect them. Because tying a rakhi during Bhadra is avoided, the day and time depend on when the full moon and Bhadra fall.
How the date is decided
Raksha Bandhan falls on Shravana Purnima, outside Bhadra kaal. In 2026 it falls on Friday, 28 August 2026.
Other festivals around this time
Janmashtami · Ganesh Chaturthi · Onam
Dates follow the panchang for New Delhi (IST), worked out from the positions of the Sun and Moon; tithi times are shown in IST. Some regions and traditions observe a festival a day earlier or later, so check with your family priest or local temple for rituals.
