Retirement corpus needed
—
—Monthly SIP needed
—Monthly expense at retirement

How the retirement plan works

  1. Today's monthly expenses are grown with inflation until the retirement age.
  2. The corpus must pay those expenses every year of retirement while they keep rising, earning a safer post-retirement return.
  3. Existing savings grow until retirement and reduce the gap.
  4. The monthly SIP fills the gap by retirement.

Example

A 35-year-old spending ₹50,000 a month today will need about ₹2.15 lakh a month at 60 with 6% inflation. To fund that until 85 at a 7% post-retirement return needs a corpus of about ₹5.8 crore. That is why starting early matters: every five-year delay raises the monthly SIP sharply.

Tips for the client conversation

Frequently asked questions

How is the retirement corpus calculated?
Monthly expenses today are grown with inflation until retirement. The corpus is the amount that, earning the post-retirement return, can pay those expenses (still rising with inflation) every year until the life expectancy you enter.
What life expectancy should I use?
Use at least 85, and 90 for healthy clients. Running out of money is a bigger risk than leaving some behind.
Why are there two return rates?
Before retirement money can be in growth assets like equity funds. After retirement it usually moves to safer, lower-return options, so the post-retirement return is lower.
Does it include EPF or pension?
Enter EPF, PPF and other savings in 'Already saved'. If the client will get a pension, reduce the monthly expense by the pension amount.
