How image compression works
Two things make a photo file big: its pixel size and how much detail is stored for each pixel. Phone cameras take 12 to 50 megapixel photos, far more than a screen can show. Reducing the width to 1600 or 1920 px and saving at quality 70 to 80 usually cuts the file by 80–90% with no visible change on a phone or laptop.
Which settings to use
| Use | Width | Quality | Format |

| WhatsApp / email | 1600 px | 75 | JPG |
| Website or blog | 1280–1920 px | 70–80 | WebP |
| Printing | Original | 90 | JPG |

Many online compressors upload your photos to their servers. This one runs completely in your browser, so personal photos and documents stay on your device. You can even turn off your internet after the page loads and it still works.
