Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks. Returns vary year to year; this is a planning estimate.

What is an SWP?

A Systematic Withdrawal Plan pays you a fixed amount from your mutual fund every month by selling a few units. The rest stays invested and keeps earning, so a corpus can pay an income for many years. Retirees often use it instead of a fixed deposit.

How to read the result

Why raise the withdrawal every year?

₹40,000 a month buys less every year because of inflation. Raising the withdrawal by 5% to 6% a year keeps your lifestyle the same, but the starting amount has to be lower. The calculator works out both.

Frequently asked questions

How much monthly income can ₹1 crore give?
At an assumed 8% a year, ₹1 crore can pay about ₹82,000 a month for 20 years if the withdrawal stays flat, or about ₹51,000 a month to start if you raise it 6% every year. Use the calculator for your own numbers.
How is SWP taxed?
Each withdrawal is treated as selling units. Only the gain portion of each withdrawal is taxed, not the whole amount, which is why SWP is often more tax-efficient than interest income. Equity fund gains held over 12 months are taxed at 12.5% above ₹1.25 lakh a year.
What return should I assume for SWP?
Most SWP money sits in hybrid or conservative funds, so 7% to 9% is a common planning range. Being conservative protects you from running out early.
When are withdrawals made in this calculator?
The corpus earns one month of return and then the month's withdrawal is paid. The yearly return is converted to the exact equivalent monthly rate.
