CGPA to percentage formulas
| Board / university | Formula | CGPA 8.0 → |
|---|---|---|
| CBSE (Class 10, CGPA era) | CGPA × 9.5 | 76% |
| Many universities | CGPA × 10 | 80% |
| Some technical universities | (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 | 72.5% |
| Some technical universities | (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 | 75% |
Your university's rule is usually printed on the back of the marksheet or in the academic regulations. When an employer or exam form asks for a percentage, use the official formula and keep a copy of the rule in case you are asked.
Why CBSE uses 9.5
CBSE worked out 9.5 as the average of the percentage that students with a 10 CGPA scored in the main subjects. It is an approximation, not an exact conversion.
Weighted CGPA from SGPA
CGPA = (SGPA₁ × C₁ + SGPA₂ × C₂ + …) ÷ (C₁ + C₂ + …)
Semesters with more credits count more. If you are not sure of credits, give each semester the same number and you get a simple average. For other marks maths, use the percentage calculator.
