Because sunrise and sunset change daily and by city, these times change too. That is why this page asks for your city.

How accurate is this panchang?

Sun and Moon positions come from a high-precision astronomy library, and sunrise is calculated for your city's latitude and longitude. Tithi, nakshatra and yoga end times are typically within a minute or two of printed panchangs. Small differences can come from the ayanamsa a calendar uses or from local customs.

Frequently asked questions

What are the five parts of a panchang?
Panchang means five limbs: tithi (lunar day), vara (weekday), nakshatra (the Moon's star), yoga (a combination of Sun and Moon positions) and karana (half of a tithi).
What is Rahu Kaal?
Rahu Kaal is a period of about 90 minutes each day that is considered unfavourable for starting new work. Daytime from sunrise to sunset is divided into 8 parts, and Rahu Kaal is a fixed part for each weekday: the 8th on Sunday, 2nd on Monday, 7th on Tuesday, 5th on Wednesday, 6th on Thursday, 4th on Friday and 3rd on Saturday.
What is Abhijit Muhurat?
Abhijit Muhurat is the 8th of the 15 muhurats of the day, centred around local noon. It lasts about 48 minutes and is considered auspicious for most beginnings.
Why do timings change from city to city?
Sunrise and sunset depend on where you are, and Rahu Kaal, muhurats and the day's tithi are all based on local sunrise. Choose your city for the right times.
Which ayanamsa is used for nakshatra?
We use the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard adopted by the Government of India's calendar reform committee and used by most Indian panchangs.
