About Chhath Puja
Chhath Puja, celebrated mostly in Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh, is dedicated to Surya and Chhathi Maiya. Devotees fast without water and offer arghya to the setting sun on Shashthi and to the rising sun the next morning, standing in a river or pond.
How the date is decided
Chhath Puja falls on Kartika Shukla Shashthi, six days after Diwali (the main evening arghya). In 2027 it falls on Thursday, 4 November 2027.
