About Diwali
Diwali, the festival of lights, marks the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya and is the most important day for Lakshmi Puja. Homes are cleaned and lit with diyas, families buy new account books and gold, and businesses in Gujarat and Rajasthan begin their financial year with Chopda Pujan.
How the date is decided
Diwali falls on Kartika Amavasya (new moon), with Lakshmi Puja in the evening (pradosh kaal). In 2027 it falls on Friday, 29 October 2027.
