About Navratri

Sharad Navratri honours the nine forms of Goddess Durga over nine nights. It begins with Ghatasthapana; Gujarat celebrates with garba and dandiya, Bengal with Durga Puja, and many families keep fasts and perform kanya pujan on Ashtami or Navami.

How the date is decided

Navratri falls on Ashwin Shukla Pratipada (Ghatasthapana), nine nights ending before Dussehra. In 2026 it falls on Sunday, 11 October 2026.

Other festivals around this time

Dussehra · Karva Chauth · Dhanteras · Diwali · Bhai Dooj · Chhath Puja · Guru Nanak Jayanti

Dates follow the panchang for New Delhi (IST), worked out from the positions of the Sun and Moon; tithi times are shown in IST. Some regions and traditions observe a festival a day earlier or later, so check with your family priest or local temple for rituals.
